Charity Projects

Fall Charity Projects

After taking all your suggestions to heart, we are planning three charity projects this fall.

Be a Santa for a Senior

The Charity Committee made 25 lap quilts KITS to gift to Home Instead's Be a Santa for a Senior. You can pick up your kit at SOS. Tese will be there from 10-4 every Thursday. Charity can provide batting when the top is finished or you may use some from your own scraps. We would really appreciate it if you can machine quilt these small lap quilts (50"x65" approximately) yourself. If that's not possible, we'll "Get Er Done", no matter what. Turn in your finished quilt the first week in December. Drop off at SOS on Thursdays.

LAST DAY TO DROP OFF IS DECEMBER 3RD.

Fidget Mini-Quilts

The answer is fidget quilts!

See below for description and instructions.

Email Susan Freund at education@gallatinquiltguild.com if you would like to participate or have any questions. You do not need to be a guild member.

So far we have 12 completed quilts. Susan will begin distribution. You are welcome to make more!

All quilts will go to Home Instead, Highgate, Spring Creek Inn, Edgewood and /or any other place you may know of.

Thanks so much everyone!

Dog Beds

We will have a Charity Sew Day on Saturday September 19th from 10-4 at SOS.

We will be making dog beds to use our scraps as well as helping Kathie Howe who has a bit of a stockpile.   There is a possibility of a Zoom class with this event because we can only safely have 10 participants at SOS.

Contact Donna Gollehon and let her know if you want to be one of the 10 at SOS. Email: charity@gallaginquiltguild.com

PLEASE BRING 1 YARD OF FABRIC FOR OUTSIDE OF BED, THE "STUFFING" AND YOUR MASK!

WHAT IS A FIDGET QUILT?

A fidget quilt is a lap quilt that provides sensory and tactile stimulation for the restless hands of someone with Alzheimer, or other forms of dementia, autism, or people who have experienced a stroke. Fidget quilts help to calm and reduce anxiety, as well as provide hours of stimulation. The directions are in the pdf document below.

Message from Donna Gollehon:

Thank you all for participating in making Making Mending in the Mountains bags. We made over 80 bags! You are wonderful!

Stay safe,

Donna

NOTE:  Donations of fabric, quilt tops, and unfinished quilts may be accepted or rejected by Committee Chair and Co-chairs according to need and space available.  All other donations may be used at Guild fund raising events such as Garage Sales, etc. and stored by donator.   If we find we are in need of fabric or tops a call will be sent out.  We know how generous our Guild members are but we do not have the space to store all that is given.
