The Threaded Needle

A monthly publication of the Gallatin Quilt Guild

Dear Sisters-in-Quilting,

I am just home from the Houston International Market and Festival. There were several Montana quilters there,

having the time of their lives! I would like to encourage everyone of you to go to Houston sometime in your quilting life,

it is so much more than a quilt show. I will encourage the Bozeman group to bring all the very cool goodies they found

at the Festival for a show & tell.

If you took quilt blocks for the charity quilt home last Spring, they are due at this meeting. If you didn’t get them

finished, please bring them back anyway, we need to have them all in one place.

The “Wool Club” isn’t being well attended so we are thinking of changing the direction of the group to a Pincushion

Club. I would like input on this new idea from anyone interested. Everyone would be able to bring patterns to the group

and it wouldn’t be just wool.

The Christmas party is fast approaching. Please remember we will be at the Bozeman Public library for this event.

If you want to participate in the gift exchange, bring a handmade gift that everyone would LOVE to have, wrapped in

Christmas fabric.

I missed the UFO challenge, but I am going to bring something to challenge myself to finish.

I attended the Wellness Community’s Fall Gala where the raffle quilt was drawn. It looked very beautiful hanging

at the Gallatin Gateway Inn. We can be very proud of the good work we, as a guild, have provided for our community

and those less fortunate.

Hello Sisters in Stitching!

What a great Summer! Today is September 1, and you can actually feel the change in the air! Autumn is my favorite

season of the year and I am looking forward to a full and fun gathering of quilt guild members and new members.

The August picnic at my house was a great success and was attended by about 30 members. We had burgers and lots of

good salads and desserts. The weather cooperated until the very end when the wind decided to blowup. Thanks to Chef

Tese for manning the grill and all of you who helped set-up and cleanup.

WooHoo - We have met our goal of 75 bags for the Wellness Community for their Mending in the Mountains program

- Thanks to all who participated! For those of you who pledged a bag but haven’t turned them in yet, we still have a use

for those promised, please bring them to the next meeting.

A couple programs coming up this fall are the Judy Niemeyer Lecture on Friday night September 11th and her class the

next 2 days. If you are not registered for the class, be sure to come to the lecture. It’s free to guild members and $10 for

guests. Also coming up in October is our UFO challenge. We had such great fun with this last year that doing it again is

a no-brainer! Bring your unfinished projects to the guild meeting and challenge yourself to fi nish them by the February

meeting or pay a fine!

Also in February (cabin fever time) we will have the annual studio tour. We have 3 studios already promised but need 2

more. Please let me know if yours could be one of them. We are looking for every size from a corner of the dining room

to and extra bedroom to a large separate space. Please give me a call @586-1235.

Summer 2009 Presidents Message

Hello Guild Members,

Summer is such a fast paced period of time! Hard to believe that July is almost gone and August is around the corner!  August 11th is the Guild’s Summer Potluck. That’s a Tuesday night at my house, 89 Columbine Ct., 6pm. Please bring a salad, hot dish, or dessert and the guild will provide meat, drinks, and utensils. Also, bring any completed “Hope Ribbons” so that we can sell them at our quilt show booth.   We have a full slate of events for the “Quilts on the Lawn” show. Please get your “Boutique’” items in so we can have them available for sale at our booth. We will also be selling raffle tickets for a beautiful quilt as a fundraiser for the Guild. This is our first year of doing this, so please be patient with us. If you have any feedback, please send it to me in writing so we can discuss it at the Fall board meeting.  Also get your quilts to Lisa at Main Street Quilting for the show. It would be fun to have quilts from classes that the  Guild has provided. The “Ruffles” class by Cheryl Wittmayer, Hearts and Vines, Meadow Lily, and Spools by Kim Diehl. See the drop off times on their website at www.quiltsonthelawn.com   The Judy Niemeyer class is right around the corner. We have a full class but if you want your name on the waiting list, please call me 586-1235. The Friday night trunk show and lecture is open to everyone. Guild members are free, guests are $10 with limited space for about 80. The class and lecture are at the Triple Tree Ranch homeowners center. Lecture is September 11th, 7pm, and the class is at 9am on the 12th and 13th.

Have a safe and healthy Summer, see you in August at the Potluck!

Wildly Sincere,
